People of Child-Bearing Age & HIV with Danielle Warren-Diaz

People of Child-Bearing Age & HIV with Danielle Warren-Diaz

The Getting2U (G2U) crew get the chance to meet with subject matter expert, Danielle Warren-Diaz, Community Health Program Director at Connecticut Children’s and UCONN Health’s Youth and Family Community Health Program.

The team’s Hot Topic discussion was about the Department of Health and Human Service’s new Chestfeeding Guidelines for people living with HIV. For more information on the topic click here. (Infant Feeding for Individuals with HIV in the United States | NIH)

Danielle helped shed some light on the current impact of HIV on people of children-bearing age, especially among Black heterosexual women, who are among the highest population of people at risk for contracting HIV in Connecticut. Through some heart-felt moments and sharing of some personal experiences, the G2U crew took a deep dive into what UConn Health and Connecticut Children’s Hospital’s Youth and Family Community Health Program is doing to help combat this situation. Hoping to help inspire others to join the movement, Danielle provided her contact information for anyone looking to connect. Danielle can be reached at (860) 446-9685 or by email at DWarren@uchc.edu.

Patient Reported Outcome Measurements (PROM)

Patient Reported Outcome Measurements (PROM)

In this episode, Dr. Pervez Sultan, a leading expert in creating obstetric Patient Reported Outcome Measurements (PROMs), including the validated Obstetric quality of recovery (OBsQoR-10), discusses their future in our field. And let me tell you, their future is PROMising, from using it as a benchmark score to compare amongst institutions to analyzing results between obstetricians and anesthesiologists alike to explore which technique(s) (e.g., uterus exteriorization vs. no exteriorization; intrathecal morphine doses) provide the best functional recovery for our patients.

What’s the Deal With That Supreme Court Case?

What’s the Deal With That Supreme Court Case?

In June 2023, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in two cases about how admissions offices can consider an applicant’s race and ethnicity. Hannah and Mark explain the basics of the ruling and how it affects the work of the admissions office. Special guest Jeremiah Quinlan, Dean of Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid, joins to share his insights on why the ruling should not affect how applicants and educators approach the college application process, as well as the details of Yale’s strategy for responding to the ruling to ensure that Yale’s student body remains diverse along all dimensions. The ruling changed the court’s interpretation of the law, but it did not change Yale’s values.
